On Monday, April 8, 2013 our beloved son Sterling lost his hard-fought battle with Alpers-Huttenlocher Syndrome.

Sterling Curran Smith arrived in this world on the morning of June 4, 2012 to Shayla Byram and Jared Smith, both of Boise.

From day one, we knew Sterling was a unique baby. His effect on everyone he interacted with was nothing more than profound. To say that Sterling's smile was contagious is an understatement. When Sterling flashed his radiant smile, the entire room would light up. When he looked at you, it's as if nothing else in the world mattered at that moment. Sterling could make anyone feel like the most important person on Earth.

By the time he left us, Sterling had touched the hearts and lives of thousands of individuals across the nation, many of whom he had never met, through his resilience and toughness in fighting this fatal disease.

Sterling is survived by his mom, Shayla, and his dad, Jared, as well as countless aunts and uncles, cousins and grandparents. He is gone long before his time and he will be sorely missed.

A public viewing has been arranged for Friday, April 12, 2013 from 8:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Cloverdale Funeral Home, 1200 N. Cloverdale Road in Boise. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, April 13, 2013 also at Cloverdale Funeral Home. Interment will follow the service at Cloverdale Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that a donation be made to the Sterling C. Smith Memorial Fund at U.S. Bank to help fund research projects to combat Mitochondrial Diseases, and St. Luke's Children's Hospital.
