While serving as Radio Operator of a B-24H in the 487th Bomb Group, S/Sgt William M Alich was shot down over occupied France on May 11, 1944. He was able to bail out of his stricken aircraft but was taken prisoner by German forces and remained a Prisoner of War for the remainder of the war.
