Son of Sir Richard Plantagenet and Cecily de Neville, grandson of Sir Richard of York and Anne de Mortimer, Sir Ralph de Neville and Joan de Beaufort.
Earl of Rutland, born at Rouen, Normandy, baptized there 18 May 1443. He was slain with his father at Wakefield 29 Dec 1460, buried at Pontefract Yorkshire, but in 1466, his body was removed to Fotheringhay.
