Jackie passed away peacefully, Monday, April 8, 2013. Mrs. Walters was born in Richland County, she was the daughter of the late Margaret Mariah Howle Creech and William Ayden Creech. She was a graduate of Florence High School and after marriage lived in Bishopville, SC where she and her husband, Brooks owned and operated "Brooks Drive-In", popularly known as "the teenage hang-out in the 1950's. Her love for dancing was obvious early on and throughout the years she could be found teaching teenagers to dance, travelling to the Pavilion at Spivey's near Myrtle Beach to shag, or shagging well into her seventies with her husband at Lugoff Shag Club events.
Jackie was a longtime resident on Lake Wateree where she was always hosting parties for her friends and loved ones. She loved people of all ages and was generous in sharing her talents, which included cooking and crocheting, with her children and grandchildren. She was known for giving away many of her crocheted afghans to friends, caregivers, and loved ones. The way that she lived her life will serve as a legacy for her family.
Surviving are daughters, Pat Benson (Bob) of Lexington, Linda Bundrick (Terry) of Lugoff; grandchildren, Vicki B. Fisher, Sharon McCarthy (Fred), Randy Starnes (Kimberly) and 10 great-grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by her husband of 66 years, Harvey Brooks Walters; three sisters, Katherine Creech, Hilda Creech Phillips, Seavy Creech Nix and one grandson, Jamie Woodham.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the doctors, nurses and hospital staff at Palmetto Health Richland Hospice for their exceptional and compassionate care.
