FAIRMOUNT - Opal M. Neal, 85, of Fairmount, passed away (Sept. 15, 2003) at Vermilion Manor Nursing Home in Danville.

Opal was born April 4, 1918, in Paris, Ill., the daughter of Luther and Florence Vanderventer. She married Cecil Neal Jan. 7, 1936, in Paris. He died March 19, 1987.

She is survived by: two daughters, Janice (Sam) Edwards of Catlin and Wanda (John) Carson of Oakwood; three sons, Ronald Neal of Fairmount, James (Carol) Neal of Springfield and Richard D. (Bonnie) Neal of Glendora, Calif., 15 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Gladys Sherfield of Kalamazoo, Mich., Jesse Hennis and Mary Melton, both of Paris. She was preceded in death by two daughters, one brother, three sisters and two great-grandchildren.

Opal enjoyed crocheting, working puzzles and spending time with her family.

Funeral services were held at Carrington Funeral Home in Fairmount; Burial: Davis Cemetery in Fairmount; Memorials: Organization of donors choice.
