Davis was born on Dec. 3, 1964, in Nyssa to Darrell and Nellie Davis. He was a reserve officer with the Lebanon Police Department and hoped to join the force after his return from this deployment with Guard members to Iraq.
Family members said the soldier loved to play softball and held strong religious beliefs. Davis was an avid fisherman and spent his extra time studying the Bible.
Friends and relatives recalled that Davis often would talk of the children in Iraq: how they touched his heart and how their smiles helped him believe in the cause of the mission in Iraq. Officials said he was proud to be a part of starting a new school in Iraq to help the children.
Davis died Friday of injuries suffered when the roadside bomb detonated near his Humvee. He was assigned to the Army National Guard's G Troop, 82nd Cavalry, of Redmond, Ore.
