Ralph died at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center after a short illness.
Born in Deerfield, NH, he was the son of the late William Eben Ambrose and Alice White Ambrose.
Ralph served honorably as a Major in the US Army in the US, Europe, Pacific and the Far East from 1941-1953, serving as a transportation officer on ammunition ships and then serving again in the Korean War. After his retirement from the military, Ralph worked in Civil Service as a transportation officer at Military Ocean Terminal at Sunny Point, Southport, NC, retiring in 1970.
Ralph was a member of Masonboro Baptist Church. Ralph and his wife Blanche enjoyed traveling and camping in their Airstream and for many years wintered in Florida. They met many wonderful friends during their travels and visited many states and also Bermuda, Hawaii, and England.
Ralph was preceded in death by four brothers, Byron Ambrose, Warren Ambrose, Hollis Ambrose, Robert Ambrose; and one sister, Flora Marie Ambrose.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Blanche Witherell Ambrose. Other survivors include two sons, Peter Ambrose and wife Vicki of Charlotte, Wallace Ambrose and wife Jeannie of Chapel Hill; and a daughter, Susan A. Turner and husband Tim of Wilmington; two grandchildren, Steven Ambrose and wife Karen of Graham and Rebecca Ellen Ambrose of Chapel Hill; two great-grandchildren, Trinity Ambrose and Sean Ambrose of Graham. Three sisters also survive, Esther Edmonds of Epsom, NH, Mary Aucella of Bennington, NH, and Ruth Krachmal of Manchester, NH; two sisters-in-law, Eleanor Ambrose and Connie Ambrose Gates of Northwood, NH.
