Nicolo Gallina, age 53, of 6116 Calumet Ave., Manitowoc, died Tuesday, July 1, 2003, at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 5, 2003 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Community, on the corner of Hwy. 42 South and Brunner Road, Newton. The Rev. David Beaudry will officiate with burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Alverno.
Nicolo was born May 13, 1950, at Palermo, Sicily, the son of Maria Simonetta Gallina and the late Stefano Gallina. He attended schools in Sicily. On May 19, 1971, he was married to the former Sara A. Bommarito in Detroit, Mich. The family moved to Manitowoc in 1991 from Sicily and have owned Luigi's Italian Restaurant since that time. Nicolo was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Community.
Survivors include his wife: Sara of Manitowoc; his mother: Maria Gallina of
Palermo, Sicily; one son: Stefano Gallina of Manitowoc; two daughters and sons-in-law: Maria and Umberto Vitale of Sheboygan; Christina and Antonino Mannino of Manitowoc; four grandchildren: Vincenzo and Nicolo Vitale of Sheboygan; Isabella and Giuseppe Mannino of Manitowoc; one brother: Giacomo Gallina of New Jersey; two sisters and one brother-in-law: Francesca Merendino of Palermo, Sicily; Rosalia and Croce Burzzetta of Palermo, Sicily; his mother-in-law: Fara Bommarito of East Pointe, Mich.; two brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Vincent and Jill Bommarito of Gross Pointe, Mich.; Frances and Sam Badalamenti of Sobieski, Wis.
Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends survive. He was preceded in death by his father: Stefano Gallina; and his father-in-law: Joseph J. Bommarito.
Relatives and friends may call at the Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home,
Manitowoc, on Friday, July 4, 2003, from 2 until 8 p.m. and on Saturday at the
church from 10 a.m. until the time of service. There will be a parish prayer service at 8 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home lead by Father Dave.
Nicolo's family would like to thank Dr. Lynn Baatz and her staff of the Holy Family Cancer Care Center for the kindness and compassion shown to Nicolo during his illness.
