Macurda—Died at her home, 132 McLennan avenue, Syracuse, Sept. 3 Mrs. Mary Jane Macurda, aged 62 years. Surviving are a daughter, Miss Priscilla L. Macurda, Syracuse; a brother, Robert Barris, of this city and several nephews and nieces. The remains were brought to the home of a niece, Mrs. Edgar F. Hill, 303 South Second street, from where funeral services were held Sunday Rev. Warren officiating, with burial in Mt. Adnah cemetery. The deceased was a former resident of this city, moving to Syracuse two years ago.

Her mother died 8 Jan 1875, and her father died 17 Dec 1881, both in Dalmellington Parish, Ayrshire, Scotland. Mary Jane and her siblings emigrated to the US, arriving at the Port of Boston on the SS Phoenician, 1493 tons, on 7 Sep 1882. They stayed with and were raised by their aunt Eliza (Barris) Sanderson in Lowell, Middlesex, MA.
Mary Jane married Rufus A Macurda on 06 May 1893 in Chelmsford, Middlesex County, MA. Rufus and Mary had no natural children, but did have an adopted daughter, Priscilla, born about 1900.
