ABINGDON, Va. Sylvia Arbell "Peewee" Arnold, age 87, passed on Monday, April 8, 2013, at her home. Mrs. Arnold was born in Kentucky and lived in West Virginia before moving to Virginia. She was employed at Harwood in Abingdon and Eastern Isles in Richlands for many years. She also was sent to Costa Rica to train people to work in the textile industry and sat with the elderly after she retired. She is preceded in death by her parents, John Morgan Clark and Bessie Ella Dove Clark; husband, J.C. Arnold; sister, Vivian Barrett; and five brothers, John M. Clark Jr., David Clark, Charles Clark, Howard Clark and Douglas Clark. She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Joyce Clark and and Sonya Clark, both of Abingdon; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at Abingdon First Church of God with the Rev. Dr. Bob Neace officiating. A private interment will be held at a later date at Knollkreg Memorial Park. There will be no visitation prior to the service. Friends may call on the family at anytime at Mrs. Arnold's residence. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Abingdon First Church of God, 500 Whites Mill Road, Abingdon, VA; or to the Washington County Life Saving Crew in Mrs. Arnold's name.
