Jess C. Denious,Sr.prominent Kansas editor and publisher of the Dodge City Daily Globe was born in Mogadore,Ohio on July 14,1879, son of Oliver and Martha(Moore)Denious. He died Dec.1,1953 at age of 74 years. The family moved to a farm near Parsons,Ks when he was five years old. Shortly after that he family moved to Erie,Ks.

He attended rural and high school in Neosho county. From 1901-02, he attended Drake University in Des Moines,Ia.and transferred to Baker University at Baldwin,Ks and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1905. He was active in debate, a member of Kappa Sigma(master of Beta Tau chapter 1903-04) and president of his senior class there.

On June 30,1915 he married at Dodge City,KS to Juliet Pettijohn. She was born at Hugoton,Ks on April 19,1892 daughter of M/M L.J.Pettijohn. There are two children born to this union; Martha Elizabeth Muncy(b.Nov.5,1919)and Jess C.Denious,Jr(b.June 4,1928-Aug.7,1969).

During 1905-06,Jess was a reporter on the Ottawa Herald and from 1906 until 1908 on the Erie Record. He was on the reportorial staff of the Wichita Beacon from 1908 until 1910 and since then he has been editor of the Dodge City Daily Globe. He is president of the Dodge City Broadcasting Co. and president of the Telegram Publishing Co of Norton,Ks.

A Republican, Mr. Denious was delegate to that national convention at Cleveland in 1924 and in 1932 was elected state senator from the 37th district. He is a member of the Kansas Press Assoc(president in 1924) and the Southwestern Kansas Editorial Assoc(president in 1931)

He is a Mason(Blue Lodge Chapter, Royal and Select Masters, Commandery, Consistory Order of Eastern Star) a life member of the Kansas State Historical Society, the Rotary Club,(president 1922-24), the Chamber of Commerce(president 1918) and the Kansas Statae Chamber of Commerce(director 1928-).

He was affiliated with the First Presbyterian Church and is a member of the Dodge City Country Club and the Topeka Press Club. He also was a director of the Ford County Red Cross and Dodge City Salvation Army.
