California State Senator Beban died unexpectedly from complications of malaria. Born in San Francisco to Roko Beban (of Croatia) and Johanna Dugan (of Ireland) he attended public schools and began his work life as a printing pressman. He was elected to the California State Assembly in 1908 on the Republican and Union labor tickets and re-elected in 1910. He served as San Francisco Deputy Sheriff from 1912-1914. He was elected to the California State Senate in 1914 on the Progressive ticket. Married Marie Agnes McCarthy (1872-1913) and later Alice May Timney (1877-1924), but no children.
