Mrs. Frances J. Bending, wife of Jeremiah W. Bending, passed peacefully from her suffering to rest Thursday afternoon, July 3, 1902. She was born October 25, 1828, in Portland, Chautauqua county, N.Y.; her maiden name was Frances Jane Hubbell. She was married to Jeremiah W. Bending October 18, 1847. After her marriage she and her husband resided in Little Rock, Ill., 23 years, when they moved to Iowa, residing there two years, and came to Kansas in the spring of 1873, where they have since lived. To Mr. and Mrs. Bending were given eight children: Harriett (Mrs. S. Jackson), Caroline (Mrs. Castle), Mary J. (Mrs. Smith), Walter J., Brewer H., Grant E., Jessie E., (Mrs. Craft), one having died in infancy. She was laid to rest in the Lack cemetery July 5. The sermon was preached by Rev. Pierce from the text: "For I know that thou wilt bring me to death, and to the house appointed for all living." --Job 30:23
