A daughter of John W. and Elizabeth (Brown) Burket. Aged 79 years 10 months 17 days. She was united in marriage with John Batzel who died Feb. 28, 1881. She married Samuel Whorrell about 1884. He died Aug. 13, 1886.

Mrs. Catharine Batzel, one of the venerable mothers of Hopewell township, this county, died at the home of her son, Rev. George Batzel on Saturday, September 22, 1917, at the advanced age of 74 years, 10 months and 17 days.
Mrs. Batzel was born in Hopewell township, this county, November 25, 1837. Her maiden name was Burket, one of the pioneer families of that section. When a young woman she was united in marriage with John Batzel. She had a large acquaintanceship and was held in high esteem by all who knew her. For many years she had been a member of the Church of the Brethren and was a consistent Christian.
Left to mourn the death of this good woman are the following: Mrs. Tena Ritchey, of Owasco, Indiana, Mrs. Lavina Ritchey of Tatesville, Mrs. Susan Miller of Raven Run, Mrs. Barbara Ritchey of Winchester, Indiana, Rev. George Batzel, John Batzel and Mrs. Fannie Gates of Tatesville. Two brothers, Samuel and John Burket also survive.
Funeral services were held on last Tuesday at the Bethel Church, Rev. D. A. Stayer and Rev. Samuel Ritchey, officiating. Interment was made in the Cessna [Burket] graveyard.
