Mr. Davis was born in Lee County, N.C. on Dec. 23, 1924, to the late Junnie Davis and Lenna Mae Sloan Davis.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Laverdure; a sister, Ara Cox; and six brothers, Dwight, Martin, Max, Rhondo, Robert and Junie Lee Davis.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. His awards include a Purple Heart and three Bronze Stars.
He is survived by his wife, Agnes McDonald Davis; a son, Donald Ray Davis and wife Sallie of Sanford; grandchildren, Ricky Sullivan and Kate Sullivan of Georgia, Marcus Sullivan and wife Terri of Hickory, N.C., Jessica Davis of Sanford, N.C., Jason Davis and wife Jennifer of Aberdeen, N.C., Laura Wright and husband Shawn of Sanford and Lisa Davis of Sanford, N.C.; and twelve great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Thursday, April 11, 2013, from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at Olivia Presbyterian Church. The funeral service will follow 2:00 PM at the church with Chaplain Joel Cameron and Rev. Sandy Williams officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery with military rites.
