H. Dean Long, 72, of rural Altamont died at 12:55 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at University of Kansas Medical Center as a result of injuries received in an accident on Friday.

He was born Feb. 16, 1933, at McCune to Alvin Leroy Long and Lula Belle (Dixon) Long. He graduated from McCune High School in 1950. During high school he enjoyed playing football. Following high school, he worked in construction. He later worked for the former Howell Ready Mix Co., which later became Individual Mausoleum Ready Mix and then O'Brien Ready Mix, where he was still employed. He had worked in the cement business for more than 35 years. He also enjoyed farming and raising livestock.

He married M. Joan on March 30, 1968, in Parsons. She survives of the home.

He was a member of Mirza Shrine at Pittsburg and CK Shrine Club. He was currently the president of CK Clowns and drove its fire truck in parades. He was a member of Prudence Lodge No. 100, A.F. and A.M., Columbus.

Other survivors include his children from his first marriage, Ron, and daughter Jennifer and her husband Ed. Step-children: Ron, Matt and his wife Janet, Cheryl and her husband Gerald. 19 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; his mother-in-law, Laura; three brothers, Kenneth and his wife Leona, David and his wife Barbara, and Phillip and his wife Marianne; three sisters, Linda and her husband Claude, LaVon and her husband Don, and Oleatha; and one sister-in-law, Geraldine.

He was preceded in death by one brother, two sisters and an infant son, John Dennis.

The service was at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will be in McCune Cemetery.
