Floyd E. Higgins, 86, of Lexington, passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2013, following a lengthy illness.
Floyd was born on January 12, 1927 in Springfield, Missouri to James and Lillian Tabor Higgins. Later in life he would call Marshall Marvel "Dad". He was a Veteran of two wars. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Air Force in WWII, and then served in the U.S. Air Force in the Korean Conflict. He was a man of many talents, speaking fluently in seven languages and a member of Mensa. He also had a knack for mathematics and was very skilled with upholstery. Floyd married Lauretta Horner in 1968 and she preceded him in death in 2000.
He is survived by one son, Patrick Shawn Higgins; two step-daughters, Lynne (Larry) Samblanet and Ruth Ann Leonard; six grandchildren, Jill (Jason) Turner, Nicholas (Amber) Leonard, Courtney Samblanet, and Justin Rogers, Kori Higgins and Baylee Higgins and their mother, Kimberly Higgins; five great-grandchildren, Emerson, Samuel, Addison, Justin, and Phyllip; and special friends, Cindy Allen and Ashley Rose.
Along with his wife, Lauretta, Floyd was preceded in death by his parents.
Graveside services will be held on at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 12, 2013 at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio. Werner-Gompf Funeral Services, LTD. is handling the arrangements.
