Son and first child of Thomas Herbert "Jack" Thatcher, and Lillian Kathleen "Kate" Bird. His sister was Joyce "Joy" (Thatcher) Koppier.

Husband to Great Britain and Northern Ireland's first female Prime Minister, The Rt. Hon. Lady Margaret Hilda Thatcher, Baroness Thatcher of Kesteven.

Educated at Bognor Regis, West Sussex, and Mill Hill School, London.

He served the nation during World War II, enlisting in the Royal Engineers, and later the Royal Artillery.

A memorial service was held 30 Oct 2003, in Westminster Abbey.
Cremains interred within the lawn of Margaret Thatcher Infirmary, and later removed to the walkway near the ashes of his beloved wife.
