Mr. Markland was the son of Henry Broom Markland and Anna Park Smith Markland of Philadelphia. He was the father of Mrs. Lillian Nelson Markland Van Sant of Absecon and of the late Mrs. Nelsa Markland Dunn of Pennsylvania. His first wife, Lillian Nelson Markland 1876-1921 was the mother of his children. He then married Mrs. Mildred Nelson Estoclet 1871-1950. His third marriage was to Ingeborg Selvig of Norway 1907-1995. Born in Philadelphia Mr. Markland operated a construction company in Atlantic City and was the builder of the Atlantic City Convention Hall at the time the largest clear span building in the world. He had been the director of the Atlantic City Chamber of Commerce for 22 years, and founder and former president of the Building Contrators Association of New Jersey. He was a member of the Pennsylvania State Society of the Cincinnati, the Pennsylvania Sons of the Revolution, and a Mason. He was the great great Grandson of Jacob Broom, Delaware patriot and signer of the Constitution of the United States and the great Grandson of Captain John Markland, hero the American Revolution.
