Also survived by 11 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
Marie graduated from Kingsbury High School, Kingsbury, TX at age 16, and graduated from Durham's Business School at 18. She married Lee Ewald in 1949; they moved to Dilley in 1958. She was a homemaker who always put family first. She so loved her husband, 4 children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She helped Lee (even drove tractor many years) with farming, custom hay baling, planting coastal bermuda sprigs, and cattle ranching for over 45 years.
Her big dream was to further her education and to go to college. She always said "after the kids are grown, I am going to college". At 48 she started college and graduated from SWTJC in Uvalde, attended UTSA, and graduated from SWTSU (now TSU). She taught at Dilley High School for 13 years, 4 years at Carrizo Springs High School, retired and concentrated on her beloved cattle ranching.
Marie's love for the Lord was evident in all she did. She taught Sunday School for many years and helped with Lee's pastoring at the Jesus is Lord Baptist Church in Big Wells for 14 years. She was a 'giver', gift giving, but also 'personal wise' of herself and her time to hundreds of people through the years. She was a benefactor to South Texas Childrens's Home in Beeville, as well as many other ministries and charity organizations.
Services were held at Jesus is Lord Baptist Church in Big Wells, Texas with Roger Reinhard presiding. Her nephew, Roger Hurt, led the singing. Burial was at Dilley Cemetery.
