William F. Wilhelmy, 82, of Seymour and husband to Dorine Traver Wilhelmy for 57 years, died Wednesday June 4, 2008 at Griffin Hospital. He was born September 28, 1925 in Ansonia, son of the late Phillip and Florence Collins Wilhelmy Sr. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service, but continued working until turning 82, spending the last eight years working at Quassapaug Amusement Park where he enjoyed running the "flying horses". A veteran of the U.S. Merchant Marines, he was also a member of the Fountain Hose Fire Department in Ansonia for more than 50 years. He was an outstanding athlete. He played college football at Wake Forest and semi-pro football for the Ansonia Townies. In addition to his wife Dorine, he is survived by his children, William Wilhelmy Jr. and Doreen Wilhelmy, both of Seymour, and Robert Wilhelmy of Claremont, N.H. William is also survived by his grandchildren, Elizabeth Wilhelmy Renker, Jennifer Spelas and Lizzy Stuart Wilhelmy; as well as great-grandchildren Emma and Anneliese Renker. William is survived by one brother, Donald Wilhelmy of North Port, Fla. and was predeceased by one brother Phillip Wilhelmy, Jr. Memorial services will be held Tuesday June 10, 2008 from the Trinity Episcopal Church in Seymour. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Ansonia. The Jenkins-King Funeral Home Ansonia is entrusted with the arrangements.
