Lillian V. Gutshall, of St. Anne's Retirement Community, Columbia, formerly of Marietta, entered into her eternal rest April 6, 2013. She was the loving wife of the late Mervin E. Gutshall, who died in 2000, just before their 53rd wedding anniversary. She was 86.

Born in New Oxford, Adams County, Lillian was the daughter of the late Curtis A. and Kathryn M. Gossler Funk.

Lillian had been employed at Wyeth-Ayerst, Marietta, retiring from the chemistry lab in 1970. She also worked at the Marietta Emporium and volunteered at Heatherbank Nursing Home.

She was a member of the Mothers' Club for 10 years at the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Marietta and a faithful member until their doors closed. She was currently a member of Mary Mother of the Church, Mount Joy. As the President of the Ladies' Auxiliary of MYAA throughout the 1970's, Lil kept the Memorial Park concession stand stocked with chips, candy, hot dogs, and helpers.

At home, she was known as a fantastic baker of pies, cookies, peanut butter fudge, and hand rolled pot pie dough. As the postmaster's wife, she took it upon herself to keep Marietta's letter carriers nourished with birthday treats from her kitchen. A pleasant Christmas pastime for Lil was collecting pine cones, holiday branches, and berries and designing imitation gilded gold wreaths for friends. Lil also hosted many pinochle parties where she and her guests would empty each other's purses of all their change late into the night.

Surviving are three children, William K. (Cheryl R. Stoner) Gutshall, Mary K. (Steven L. Prescott), and Barbara G. (Todd M.) Butz, all of York; nine grandchildren, Jodi Maurer, Julie Brunner, Cobey Dietrich, Neil Gutshall, Ashley Althouse, David P. Althouse, Andrea Gutshall, Spencer and Pearl Butz; eight great-grandchildren. She was one of eleven children.

She was preceded in death by two sons, David A. Gutshall in 1992 and James E. Gutshall in 2011.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial honoring Lillian's Life 11 a.m., April 11, 2013, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Columbia. Final Commendation and Farewell will be in Laurel Hill Memorial Gardens, Columbia.
