George Vicilo Jolley
(June 30, 1921 - June 19, 2007)

U.S. Veteran
George V. (Bud) Jolley CMSgt., USAF Ret. Loving Husband and Father

George Vicilo Jolley was born June 30, 1921 in Blackfoot, Idaho. When he was five, his family moved to Idaho Falls. He was the third of five children born to George B. and Edith England Jolley. He died peacefully at his home 11 days before his 86th birthday, surrounded by the family he adored and who adored him in return.

Bud enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served from 1940 to 1945. He was stationed in Hawaii and various places in the States during WWII. After the war, he served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Northern California Mission, where he met his eternal sweetheart, Melba Martarano. They were married in the LDS Idaho Falls Temple May 21, 1948. Eight fantastic children blessed their marriage.

In 1950 during the Korean War, Bud was recalled to the Air Force. He served his country until 1971 when he retired. Bud achieved the rank of Master Sergeant when he was 21 years old and was among the first to be promoted to Senior Master Sgt. and Chief Master Sgt. when those ranks were created. He loved his country. During his career the family was stationed in California, Puerto Rico, Idaho, Oklahoma and Turkey.

He served faithfully in many church callings, including Branch President in Oklahoma and Turkey, Counselor to the Bishop in Idaho. With his wife, he served a mission at the Family History Library in SLC. They were ordinance workers in the Ogden Temple for six years.

Bud graduated from Weber State College with a degree in Automotive Engineering. He was a hard worker all his life. Melba often said he could work circles around any 20 year old. He could make or fix anything, and was always there when his children needed help fixing cars and appliances or in any other way. He built the family home with his own hands. When asked once what his hobby was, he answered, "Helping my family."

Bud was a selfless man who was totally devoted to his family and always put their needs above his own. He taught his children service by his example. During the past few months when his needs have been great, they showed that they learned that principle well by lovingly serving and caring for him. Bud had a testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and he taught his family to be faithful by example. All of his family are active in the Church; 31 of his children, grandchildren, and their spouses have served missions for the Church.

Dad, we love you!

Bud is survived by his wife, and his eight children: Larry (Rexalee), Susan (Wayne), serving a mission in Omaha, Nebraska, Michael (Marjean), Kathy (Mike), Becky (Dean), Janeen (Tom), Melinda (Brent), and David.

Also surviving are his sisters, Vic and Clara, 40 grandchildren: Barry (Tanya), Steve (April), John and Sharon Jolley; Mark (Annette), Denece (Steve), Jared (Pam), Nathan (Julie) and Tami (Brent) Palmer; Scott (Kourtney), Melanie (Tally), Alan (Amanda), Kristen (Adam), Natalie and Tyler Jolley; Adam (Cara), Brandon (Marci), Caleb (Becky), Derek, Eric (serving in Romania), Feliz, Gavin, Hayden and Indee Rigby; Danny (Linda), Joey (Sadie), Marisa (Brent), David (serving in Brazil) and Rachel Fonnesbeck; Jim, Jeremy, Jennifer, Jessica and Jordan Passey; Dallin, Francesca, Brady, Brianna, Giovanna, and Isabella Roth; and 25 great-grandchildren: Cameron, Zackary, Kaleb, Rachel, Cassie, Cami, Shannon, Justin, Devin, Nala, Tucker, Molly, Teancum, Gideon, Zaytey, Porter, Emma, Sera, Lucy, Kayley, Cameron, Cory, Jaida, Cooper, and Speirs, and five babies soon to be born.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 22, 2007 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist's Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends and family may call Thursday, June 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.
