Funeral services for the late Mrs Laura Jane Carswell were held Tuesday, Nov 14th, at 3:30pm. at the Schroeder Funeral Home, with the Rev. B.C. Westergard in charge.
LaVern Alsin sang "The old Rugged Cross" and "The Lord's Prayer", with the piano accompaniment furnished by his mother, Mrs E.W. Alsin.
Pallbearers were: Harley Reed, Reuben Lantz, Harlan Smith, James Tait, Sidney Stumbo, and Walton Stumbo.
The flower committee was Mrs V. Louis Anderson, Mrs Marvin Blaess, and R. P. Thorson.
LIFE SKETCH:Mrs. Laura Jane Carswell, daughter of Mr and Mrs Heber Gilbert, was born December 21, 1865, at Allegheny, PA. and died November 11, 1950, at the age of 84 years 10 months, and 21 days.
At the age of 13 years she with her parents came from Pennsyvania and settled at Moingona, Iowa. where she spent many years of her life before moving to Boone, Iowa.
She was united in Marriage to William John Carswell, September 8, 1887 and to this union was born seven children, four sons and three daughters.
She was preceded in death by her husband William John Carswell, and two daughters who died in infancy: her parents, Mr and Mrs Heber Gilbert, and two sisters, Mrs Mary Stumbo and Ada Frances Gilbert.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs Andrew T. Smith, of Kansas City, MO. and four sons, William Carswell and Joseph Carswell of Boone, Iowa, Frank L. Carwell of Kansas, City, MO. and Howard Carswell of Mt. Ayr. Iowa. also two sisters, Mrs John Hurst of Woodward, and Mr Luella May Hunt of Omaha, NE. and four brothers, Ed Gilbert of Boone, Iowa, Frank Gilbert of Des Moines, Ben Gilbert of Bonesteel, S.D. and Clyde Gilbert, of Omaha, NE. 9 grandchildren, and 1 g.grandchild, and a host of friends.
Mrs. Carswell was a member of the Methodist Church in Boone, Iowa. and the Moingona Home-commers group of which she was an ardent supporter. She was a lover of music and poetry and had written several songs and poems, she enjoyed painting later in life.
