Kathryn "Kathy" Hoogerwerf, 86, died Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at Guardian Angels By The Lake Assisted Living in Elk River, MN. Visitation will be in Des Moines, IA on Thursday, March 14, 2013 from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. A second visitation will be held on Friday, March 15, 2013 starting at 9:00 a.m.to be followed by a Memorial Service and Internment beginning at 11:00 a.m. All events will take place at Merle Hay Funeral Home at Chapel Hills, 4400 Merle Hay Road. The family invites those attending to join them for a luncheon following the Internment. Kathy was born on September 23, 1926 in Moran, Iowa. She graduated from Woodward High School in 1944. Kathy worked for many years as a Customer Service Representative for Sears. An avid golfer and bowler, she won numerous awards for her athletic ability. She loved her friends at the Norwoodville Community Senior Center where she regularly attended and volunteered. Her family loved to hear her play her guitar, sing and yodel! She will be remembered for her sweet spirit and lovely, friendly smile. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandma and friend. Kathy is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Harley; infant son, Randall; infant great-grandson, Beckham Deneson; parents Mike and Antonia (Toljan) Marinac; and brothers, Emil, John and Bob Marinac. She is survived by daughter, Cynthia (Paul, Jr.) Deneson of Bloomington, MN; son, David (Mary Kay) of Des Moines; grandchildren, Bret (Catherine) Deneson of Otsego, MN; Amy (Melinda) Deneson of New York City, NY; Stephanie Hoogerwerf of Minneapolis, MN; Natalie Hoogerwerf of Des Moines; and great-grandsons, Luke and Braedon Deneson of Otsego, MN.
