Elizabeth Singleton 93, of Beaufort and mother of Cecelia S. Hooper, died Friday, March 15, 2013, at her residence.

Funeral services for Ms. Singleton will be held at 3:30 PM, Friday, March 22, 2013, at the First African Baptist Church, Beaufort. Burial will follow in the Sixteen Gates Cemetery, Beaufort.

The Family will receive friends from 7 to 8 PM Thursday in the Chapel of Marshel's Wright-Donaldson Home For Funerals.

Mother Elizabeth Singleton, daughter of the late Sam and Celia Bryant Singleton, was born on November 14, 1919 in the old Edgerley Community (now Marine Corps Air Station - Beaufort). She departed this life on Friday, March 15, 2013 at her residence. Elizabeth or Lizzie, as she was fondly called by family and friends, attended the Beaufort County Training (Old Shanklin) School. She was baptized at an early age at Horsepond Baptist Church, then moved her membership to First African Baptist Church in Beaufort, SC where she faithfully attended Sunday School and Church services until her health failed.

She started working for Dr. Black at an early age. Then, she began working at Tidalholm as a chef, where she worked for 30 years. Later on, she worked at Royal Pines Country Club. Then, she worked at Bull Island as a chef and retired after 30 years. In addition to her culinary skills, she was an avid gardener, reader, and enjoyed a variety of crafts mostly self taught. She made beautiful macramé and crochet creations. Lizzie was an excellent seamstress and made designer clothes with and without patterns. She had the gift of looking at something and soon creating it. She was a very kind and likable person with a quiet and gentle spirit who enjoyed do-ing crossword puzzles and Sudoku. She loved her family and her home was always open to her grand and great grandchildren to come and stay.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sons, Jackie and Johnny Singleton; brothers, Frank and Nathaniel Singleton; sisters, Rosa Singleton, Maggie Singleton Johnson and Lucille Singleton Robinson.
