Samuel W Irvin Sr of Sun City, Arizona oassed away Sunday, May 15th, 2005 at the age of 92. A Christian memorial service and internment were conducted at Sunland Memorial Park, Sun City, Arizona.
Sam was born March 28th, 1913 in Osceola Mills to the late Samuel M Irvin and Elizabeth (Whitney) Irvin.
Upon his graduation from high school, he attended the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy & Science, earning a Doctorial Degree in Pharmaceutical Science. Following Sam's graduation from college he returned to Philipsburg to work in Dock's Drug Company at 104 N Front Street. After purchasing the business, he changed the name to Irvin's Pharmacy. Sam served his community as a respected businessman, pharmacist and community leader for forty years. He retired to Sun City, Arizona in 1977.
He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Kathryn (Galbraith) Irvin of Sun City, Arizona; a son and daughter-in-law Sam Jr and Georgia Irvin of Philipsburg: and two grandchildren Alison & Morgan Irvin of Tamarac, Florida.
He was a decorated veteran, serving in the US Navy during World War II from 1942 to 1946, He was recalled to active duty, serving in Korea from 1950 to 1952. During his military service he attained the rank of lieutenant commander. Honourably discharged, Sam's love and pride in the Navy remained with him through his life.
As a Mason, Sam belonged to the Jaffa Temple of Altoona, and the Osceola Blue Lodge No. 515, of Osceola Mills. He was also a respected member of the Elks, VFW and the American Legion, all of Philipsburg. In Addition, Sam was a member of Pennsylvania Society, Sons of American Revolution, Clearfield, and the Philipsburg Country Club.
Sam Sr will be remembered was a loving husband, respected father and grandfather and a caring gentleman.
