REED RAMSEY MISSING IN ACTION, DECLARED DEAD
Official notice has been received from the U.S. Marine Corps that PFC Reed Thomas Ramsey of the Graham vicinity, who was reported missing in action last year, has been declared dead.
The information was received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James E. Ramsey, Bolchow, rte. 3, who lived in the Fillmore vicinity, but formerly residence of this county.
The letter of condolence has been received by the parents from Lieut. Gen. T. Holcumb, commandant of the Marines, who spoke of the "splendid record" of Reed Ramsey.
Lieut. M.G. Craig of the Washington office of the Marine Corps, wrote in part to Mr. and Mrs. Ramsey.
I deeply regret that the facts surrounding the disappearance of your son, Pfc. Reed Ramsey, U.S. Marine corps, indicate he lost his life in action. Your son has been carried on the records of this office as missing in action since September 28, 1942, and in accordance with the existing law and in the absence of any information regarding his fate or whereabouts, he has been officially declared dead by the Navy department as of September 29, 1943.
Ramsey was a tail gunner on a marine plane that was downed by Japanese planes, September, 28, 1942 in the Guadacanal area.
