Phil was born July 28, 1921, in Waynesburg, Penn. He attended schools in Waynesburg, and joined the Army in 1943. He made the Army, and then the Air Force, his career with 20 years of service. He attended 19 months of business college between his enlistments. He enjoyed his retirement for the next 40 years, living his life on his terms and enjoying his friends and his family of animals. Phil was a lifelong NASCAR fan, and in 2008 had the opportunity to attend a race in Las Vegas with his friend and neighbor. Phil moved to Carter 30 years ago and made his home there until he passed away. He had many friends, and we all knew it was spring when Phil showed up with his shorts on! In his youth he was a tap dance champion, took violin lessons and loved to jitterbug. Over the years, he was member of the American Legion, VFW, Moose, Elks and the Eagles. During his years in the service he traveled Europe extensively when he was on leave, and after his discharge, he traveled to nearly all the states, missing some of the New England states. Phil leaves no known family but is survived by his many friends in Carter.
Phil's goodbye was always "have a good day," so we are sure he is wishing all to have a good day and remember how he loved to visit and eat out at good restaurants.
