Sheryl passed away at home on Tuesday after a valiant three year battle with lung cancer.
Sheryl was born in San Francisco and attended Balboa High School and San Francisco City College. After moving to Contra Costa County, Sheryl began her 28 years in public service as a Police/Fire Dispatcher. She worked for the Pittsburg Police Department, Contra Costa Sheriff's Office, and retired from the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District in 2008.
Sheryl was preceded by her father Walter and mother Mary. She is survived by her loving family and friends; including her husband Don Benson. [other names omitted] Sheryl also leaves her lving pets, Oreo, Sylvester, Stripers, Charcoal, and Goldie.

Friends and family are invited to a visitation at Pittsburg Funeral Chapel on Monday, June 4, 2012 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Committal services will be held at Rolling Hills Cemetery in Richmond on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at 11:30 a.m.
