Mertie "Lou" Simon Melancon passed away on Wednesday, December 17, 2014, at the age of 90.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, December 22, 2014, at 2:00 PM at St. Anthony's Catholic Church of Eunice. Monsignor Robert Romero will officiate. Entombment will follow at St. Paul Mausoleum in Eunice.

Mertie "Lou" was a longstanding member of the Catholic Daughter Court 208; she was in the Omega Group. Mertie "Lou" was a volunteer and first president of the Eunice Manor volunteers. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxillory, as well as, a member of the Louisiana Genealogical and Historical Society, having published two genealogy books.

Mertie is survived by two sons, Ricky Melancon and wife Sherry of Eunice and Al Melancon and wife Beverly of Duson; one daughter-in-law, Tressella Melancon of Eunice; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren; and three great great-granchildren.

Mertie was preceded in death by her parents, Wesley Simon and Agnes Leger Simon; one son, Daniel Melancon; one brother, Johnny Ray Simon; and two sisters, Melford Dugas and Beverly Simon.

At the request of the family, visitation will be held on Sunday, December 21, 2014, from 9 AM to 8 PM. A Rosary will be prayed at 3 PM by Deacon Gary Gaudin with the Catholic Daughters. The funeral home will reopen at 8 AM Monday until the time of service.
