Carmelo J. Ticino, 78, of Meriden and Port St. Lucie, Fla., husband of Claire (Gaudette) Ticino, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2011, at home after a lengthy illness.

Born in Meriden on Sept. 10, 1932, he was the son of the late John and Helen (Gwara) Ticino. He had resided in Meriden all his life and graduated from Wilcox Technical High School. Mr. Ticino was employed by New Departure- Hyatt Division of General Motors in Meriden and Bristol for 35 years. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, and was a member of New Departure Fish and Game club.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Maureen Wirth and her husband, Jeffrey, of Meriden, and Carolyn Ticino and her fiancé, Frederick Smalley, Jr., of Plainville; a son, Carmelo Ticino, Jr., and his wife, Sharon, of Higganum; nine grandchildren, Jayne Smalley, Matthew Osiecki, Alyssa Ticino, Sean Carroll, Lisa Carroll, Jessica Ticino, Ross Carroll, Brandon Ticino, and Christian Ticino. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Tyler and Dylan Smalley and Derek and Blake Osiecki; a sister, Gloria Zuber; and three brothers, John Ticino, Jr., Salvatore Ticino and Richard Ticino.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, March 3 at 8:45 a.m., from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, and at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church for a Mass of Christian burial. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
