George W. Thomas enlisted in Company B, 3rd Tennessee Regiment on April 26, 1861, at Madisonville, Tennessee, and served for 15 months. He then enlisted in Company G, 2nd Regiment Tennessee Cavalry on March 1, 1863, at Sweetwater, Tennessee. Private Thomas was paroled in April 1865 in Washington, Georgia.
Following the War, Thomas came to Texas in 1880 and worked as a farmer. He was admitted to the Confederate Men's Home on May 12, 1916.
