McDaniel, Herman Floyd, of Ashland, passed away on April 4, 2013. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Grace Cochran McDaniel. He is survived by his wife, Mary Roberts McDaniel; a daughter, Patricia M. Lacy (Thomas); a son, Ronald L. McDaniel (Beth); a granddaughter, Katherine H. McDaniel; a grandson, Matthew N. McDaniel (Katie); and a great grandson, Alexander Daw McDaniel; three stepsons, Michael (Diane), Henry (Terry), and Larry (Cindy) Roberts; several step grandchildren; and two step great grandchildren. He was the youngest of 13 children, born to Alexander Edgar and Ida Shifflett McDaniel. He was also a member of Emmanuel Holiness Church of Montpelier, VA and a former member of Winn's Baptist Church. He liked hunting, fishing and gardening. He also played the guitar and harmonica. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 412 S. Washington Hwy., Ashland, VA, where a visitation will be held on Monday, April 8, 2013 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. with services beginning at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be at Westhampton Memorial Park.In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Ronald McDonald House, Roanoke, VA.
