At an early age, she distinguished herself as a Christian and joined Bethel AME Church. She attended the public schools of Sumter County and retired from Georgia-Pacific.
She leaves to cherish her memories: six children, Jeanne Blackwell and Teresa Washington, both of Sumter, Linda (Josphat) Mokeri, Tammy Washington, Melissa Blackwell of Minneapolis, Minn., and Carolyn Washington of Augusta; three sons, Douglas (Annette) Washington of Augusta, Joseph Washington of Minneapolis and George Washington of Sumter; two sisters, Catherine (Robert) Bebee and Lillie Mae (Lawrence) Burgess-Spann of New York City; five brothers, Howard (Amy) Pringle of Sumter, Dan, J.L. and Raymond Pringle, all of New York City, and Emmanuel Wheeler of Connecticut; a brother-in-law, Sammie Washington of Raeford, N.C.; son-in-law, George Blackwell; 30 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including special friend Eugene Melton.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Marsha Moore; and four brothers, John Edward, Abraham, Alfonzo and Kenneth Pringle.
Funeral services: Beulah AME Church with Dr. Robert L. McCants, presiding elder of the Sumter District, officiating and eulogist.
Interment: Beulah cemetery.
