Death of Mrs. Samuel Howard

Margaret Jane, eldest daughter of Solomon and Nancy Kisling was born near Greensburg, Decatur Co., Indiana, Aug. 16, 1837.

At the age of 15 years she moved with her parents to Decatur Co., Iowa, at which place she was married to Howard, Jan. 6, 1859. To this union were born seven children, all of whom are left to mourn the loss of a loving mother, together with seventeen grandchildren and three great-grand-children; also two sisters and one brother. The husband preceded her in death eighteen years ago.

In 1867 she and her husband moved to Mt. Zion, Van Buren county, Iowa, and for forty-five years she lived in this county.

In 1913 she moved to Lansing, Michigan, to make her home with an unmarried daughter, and in this home passed away November 9, 1918, at the age of 79 years, 2 months and 28 days.

She was converted in early life and united with the Methodist church. Her greatest comfort in her last years was in being able to attend the house of worship on the Sabbath day, but because of feeble health she missed many services, which grieved her, and had entertained high hopes of being able to attend church the day that she was stricken with the fatal illness.

The funeral service was held in the Birmingham M.E. church on Monday afternoon, the 11th at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. C.E. Ward of Packwood, Iowa, assisted by W.J. Fowler, and the remains interred in the Birmingham cemetery.
