LACON -- Leslie D. Cowell, 69, of 509 N. Main died at 3:30 p.m.

Saturday, Oct. 5, 1996, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

He was born July 20, 1927, in Lacon to John R. and Myrtle McFarlin Cowell.

Surviving are one brother, John "Jack" of Lacon; one sister, Mrs. Robert (Gloria) Newell of Sparland; and several nieces and nephews.

He was a material control clerk at Caterpillar Inc. for 30 years, retiring in 1980. He was a World War II Army veteran, serving in Italy.

A member of Illinois Basketball Association Friend of Basketball Hall of Fame, he coached the Babe Ruth Baseball League in Lacon for many years. He was a charter member of the Mid-County Boosters Club.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Lenz Memorial Home. The Rev. John McClimans will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the memorial home. Burial will be in Lacon Cemetery.
