Author. He was born in Klagenfurt, Austria. He is best known for his monumental work "Der Mann Ohne Eigenschaften"(The Man Without Qualities). He also wrote "Young Törless," "The Religious Spirit, Modernism, and Metaphysics," "Die Schwärmer" which received the Kleist Prize, and "Vinzenz und Die Freundin Bedeutender Männer". With Hitler's rise to power, he left Austria with his wife to Geneva, where died.
