Emporia Couple Die in Park Fire
Pvt. Robert McIlvain and Wife Two of Six Victims in Denver
An Emporia soldier and his 25 year old wife lost their lives in a fire Sunday in a Denver, Colo., amusement park.
Two of the six victims of the tragedy were Pvt. Robert Cecil McIlvain, son of Paul McIlvain, of Illinois, formerly of Emporia, and his wife, who before her marriage in 1941 was Mary Ida Leonard, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Leonard, 228 South East Street. Mrs. McIlvain lived in Emporia with her parents but went a week ago Thursday to Denver to be with her husband, who was stationed at Camp Buckley, Colo.
Death was due to suffocation due to a fire in the Old Mill, scenic boat tunnel at Elitch's Gardens, Denver amusement park.

The bodies arrived in Emporia this morning. T.Sgt. E.R. Wike, of Buckley Field, Colo., a military escort, accompanied the bodies. Funeral services to be held Thursday afternoon at the Roberts-Blue Funeral home. Rev. Oscar T. Moline, pastor of the First Christian Church to conduct the services. Pvt. and Mrs. McIlvain are survived by a 1 year old son.
