Jim "Bilbo" Montgomery, 74, of 502 Independence Ave., died Saturday, Sept. 21, 1991, at Allen Memorial Hospital of cancer.

He was born Sept. 18, 1917, in Durant, MS; son of James and Mary Moore Montgomery.

He married Aphelia Williams in October 1969 in Waterloo, IA.

Mr. Montgomery was formerly employed with the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Elizabeth Hayes of Waterloo, IA; three sons, James Montgomery, Robert Butler, and Eugene Hayes, all of Waterloo, IA; 21 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a stepson, John Hayes of Waterloo, IA; five stepdaughters, Vancster Mayberry of Des Moines, Betty Chambers, Marline O'Neal, and Jeanette Hayes, all of Waterloo, IA; and Johnnye Mae Paynter of New Jersey; and two sisters, Laura Mae Simmons of Chicago, IL; and Doris Moses of Waterloo, IA.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, James, Dean, and Steve; two sisters, Eula Lee Williams and Menthe Lee Alexander, and two sons, Efonda and Eugene Montgomery.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Corinthian Baptist Church.
Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
Full military rites will be conducted in the Temple of Memories by American Legion Post 138 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1623.
Friends may call at Sanders Funeral Service on Thursday from noon to 4 p.m. and after noon Wednesday at the church.
Memorials may be directed to the family at 321 Leonard Ave., where they will be receiving friends.
