The funeral for Clara D. Carlson, 97, Aberdeen, will be at 1 p.m. today at Bethlehem Lutheran Church chapel, 215 Fourth Avenue S.E. The Rev. Gary Gilthvedt will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery under the direction of Miller-Huebl Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main Street. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 this morning at the funeral home, and one hour prior to the service today at the church. She died Sunday, June 15, 1997, at the Bethesda Home of Aberdeen.
Clara Dokken was born January 20, 1900, to Anton and Marie (Kleven) Dokken in rural Roslyn. She graduated from Roslyn High School, then attended Aberdeen Business College for a couple of years. She married Elmer Carlson on November 29, 1922, at Aberdeen. They started the Northwest Grocery Store in 1924. He died May 26, 1952. She operated the store until 1984. She loved to garden.
Survivors include one son, Richard "Swede" (Pat) Carlson of Aberdeen; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers and three sisters.
