Of Vassar, age 93, passed away Friday, January 4, 2013. The funeral service will take place 1:00 pm, Tuesday, January 8, 2013, at the Martin Funeral Home in Vassar. Rev. Dr. Robert Bennett will officiate with burial to follow in Riverside Cemetery. Mary's family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 3:30 pm to 8:00 pm, Tuesday from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Those desiring may make memorial donations to the Trinity Lutheran Church or Guardian Angel Hospice.
Mary was born April 7, 1919, in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John and Lidia (Toth) Varga. She and John Karr were united in marriage November 2, 1940 in Detroit and moved to Vassar where she spent the remainder of her life before moving to Touch of Class Adult Foster Home Caro in February of 2010. Mary was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Reese. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, playing euchre and pinochle, going to her cabin at Higgins Lake, and traveling.
Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters Diane and husband James Kitler of Grand Rapids, Rita and husband Floyd Neill of Plano, Texas, one son Robert Karr of Vassar; 3 grandchildren Candi and husband Charlie Huizar of Vassar, Randy and wife Karen Kitler and Stacy Kitler of Grand Rapids and two great grandsons Colton Huizar of Vassar, Matthew Kitler of Grand Rapids as well as brother-in-law Albert and wife Reona Karr and sister-in-law Florence Karr and many nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband John, sister Lydia Nemeth and four brothers John, Alex, Joseph and Charles Varga.
