Early Wednesday morning April 3rd, 2013, God welcomed home another angel, our dear Mother, Bernice Scott.

Mom was born Molly Bernice Thomas, one of 14 children to Martin and Carnia Thomas on September 18th, 1926. She married our dad, John Scott on September 20th, 1946 in Middlesboro, Ky. Dad preceded her in death on June 23, 1994. Born to mom and dad were five children. Mom had a kind spirit and loving heart and she made many wonderful friends who will miss her dearly. When you saw Mom, she had a smile on her beautiful face and she was genuinely happy. She truly loved people and heaven is seeing a big reunion today. As Mom got older she was lonely, so she tamed a very wild stray cat that she named Bob. He was such a joy in Mom's life that we affectionately called him brother Bob. Most conversations with mom began and ended with a story about him. We thank God for sending that bobtail cat to become her constant companion in her last years. Mom is survived by her children; Sue (Boyd) Martin, Linda (Randy) DePew, Betty Walker (Paul Britt), John (Lynne) Scott, and Leisha (Bryan) Carpenter, grandchildren; Michelle (Ray) Standifer, Todd (Misty) Johnson, Mark (Stephanie) DePew, Brent (Sherry) Walker, Matthew (Katherine) Davis, and Will Scott, great grandchildren, Garrett Walker, and the newest member of her family, Henry Scott Davis. She is also survived by five sisters Mae Breeden, Emma McConnell, Inez (Bob) Keadle, Laura Hobbs, Ina Oliver, Ruth (Harold) Crockett, and Bobbie (Joe) Crockett; loving in-laws Dan and June, and Herbert and Margaret Scott; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and five brothers and one sister and great grandchild Bradley Standifer. Mom loved her church and her church family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lone Branch Baptist Church, 8058 Lower Wallens Creek, Jonesville, VA 24263. Mom and Dad were wonderful loving parents and they will forever live in our hearts.

The funeral service will be held at 8:00 PM Saturday, April 6, 2013 at the Province Funeral Home Sanctuary in Jonesville, VA with the Rev. Jerry Murphree officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM Saturday until the time of the service. The graveside service will be at 1:00 PM Sunday at the Thompson Settlement Cemetery in Jonesville, VA. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 12:30 to be a part of the funeral procession or meet at the cemetery at 12:45.We are located at 29521 Wilderness Rd.
