Lydia Mozelle Bigger of Madill, passed away on April 3, 2013. Mozelle was born on August 17, 1919 in the Weaverton community to the late Walter Blakely & Tola Lemon-Blakely. She grew up in the Weaverton community and graduated from Madill High School in 1937. She continued her education at Murray State College in Tishomingo and Southeastern State College in Durant where she received her Bachelors and Masters degrees in Education.
She began her teaching career at Weaverton where she had attended elementary school. She later taught at Liberty and Lebanon schools before teaching at Madill where she retired after 41 years. During her teaching career, she was as selected "Teacher of the Year" in 1959. After her retirement, she was honored as VIP of the Retired Teachers Association in 1999. She often said, she loved every boy and girl she ever taught, which numbered in the hundreds. She also worked as a volunteer leader in the 4-H Club for many years. Mozelle was a member of the Marshall County Retired Teachers Association as well as Oklahoma State Retired Teachers Association. She was a member of the Church of Christ for over 50 years where she taught Sunday School classes and Vacation Bible School classes. She was also an avid fan and supporter of the O.S.U. Cowboys.
Mozelle married William Bruce (Pete) Bigger February 11, 1942 in Madill. They were married 49+ years. Pete and Mozelle worked together in farming and teaching. Pete passed away in 1991. One son, Walter Bruce, was born to them. They had two granddaughters, Cindy who died at birth, and Cara who brought much love and joy to them.
Mozelle is survived by her son, Walter Bruce and his wife, Lou Bigger of Madill and her granddaughter, Cara Ferrell and her husband Shannon of Stillwater. She is also survived by one brother, Howard Blakely of Oklahoma City, nephews, Charles Blakemore and family of Fairview, TX; Gregory Blakely and family and David Blakely of Oklahoma City; Steve Blakely and Gary Blakely and their families of Borger, TX; Merle Gene Blakely and family of Amarillo, TX; Clay Blakely and family of Ardmore, and George Blakely and family of Boston, Mass. She is also survived by her nieces, Sue Ann Anderson and family of Duncanville, TX; Diana Morgan and family of San Antonio, TX; and Trinette Scott of Austin, TX. She is survived by her in-laws, Billie Bennett and her husband J.W. of Madill , their son James, and Flora Bigger of Madill and her children Carol, Sharleen, and Tony. Also a family friend Faye Mauldin of El Reno and three cousins Doyle Blakely, Doris Turner, and Velma Dickson all of Madill as well as many other friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Pete Bigger, her granddaughter Cindy Bigger, two brothers Earl Blakely and Merle Blakely, and one sister Florine Blakemore.
