enlisted August 23, 1862, mustered in November 4, 1862 and mustered out July 14 1863. At the time of his death, Osman was a member of the class of 1865, University of Vermont.

A death announcement was published in the Burlington Daily Times (Burlington, Vermont)on December 21, 1863. "He was a dutiful son, a beloved classmate, a faithful friend, a true lover of his country, a young man of uusually fine promise for future usefulness, and for some time previous to his death gave pleasing evidence of true piety."
