Retired from Air Force Reserve
CISCO — Maj. James W. Johnston, 81, died Monday at an Abilene hospital.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Chambers-Wilcox Funeral Directors Chapel with Larry Fitzgerald officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
Maj. Johnston was born in Temple and moved to Cisco, where he graduated from high school.
He attended Texas A&M University and was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He retired from the Air Force Reserve in 1969 after 22 years, then retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone in 1983. He was a member of I-20 Church of Christ and the board of directors of Cisco Cemetery Association. He married Irene Grobe in 1946 in Junction.
Survivors include a nephew, a niece and several great-nephews and -nieces.
