Queen Jackson Haley

Literary figure. She was born on the Forks of the Cypress plantation, the child of the plantation's owner and a slave. After the Civil War, she made her way north. She settled in Savannah, working at the Cherry Plantation. She was the second wife of Alex Haley, a local ferry operator. Her grandson, author Alex Haley, would write the novel, "Queen" about her life. It was later made into a miniseries.

Queen Haley Buried Wednesday

Queen Haley, colored, died at the home of her son and the remains were brought here for funeral and burial Wednesday. She was past 90 yrs. of age, and surviving are her sons and daughters, Abner, Con, and Simon Haley and Annie Wilks; step children, Minnie Lowry and Freelan Haley.
