Musician. Don Ellis was a Grammy-winning jazz trumpeter, drummer, composer and bandleader. He is best known for his experimental musical style punctuated with unusual and complex time signatures. The Don Ellis Orchestra made it's breakthrough performance at the 1966 Monterey Jazz Festival. In 1971, Don turned to film composing and won a Grammy for his work on "The French Connection."
