A life resident of the Akron and Green areas, Mr. France was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S. Navy. He retired from Standard Oil Company, was a former member of the Green Twp. Volunteer Fire Department, and served as a Green Township trustee for 12 years. Russell was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church and O.E.S. Chapter 180 in Canal Fulton.
Preceded in death by his wife, Bettie; brother, Carl France; son, Russell A. France; and grandson, Jody France; he is survived by sons, Rick (Judi) of Thornville, Ohio, Mike (Kathy) of Casey Keys, Fla., and Dave (Gail) of Green, Ohio; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Friends may call Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 3553 Northdale Street (one block NW of the square of 619 and Cleveland Avenue), UNIONTOWN, Ohio 44685, where funeral service will follow at 1 p.m., with Rev. Dennis Engler officiating. Private burial will take place at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Akron. The family suggests memorials to the Epilepsy Foundation of Cincinnati and Columbus, 895 Central Ave., Suite 550, Cincinnati, OH 45202.
