Mary Ellen Myers Showalter died April 2, 2013 at the Blue Ridge Hospice in Winchester, Virginia, after an extended illness.

Mrs. Showalter was born in Toms Brook, Virginia on December 24, 1933, the daughter of the late John A. and Mary V. Myers.

Mrs. Showalter was a dancer and dance teacher in the early 1950s and also ran her own dance studio in Woodstock for a short time. Later, she went to work for the Fairfax County school system, retiring in 1984.

She previously lived in Herndon, Virginia, and Hurricane, West Virginia, before returning in 1996 to the farm in Toms Brook where she grew up.

Mrs. Showalter is survived by her husband of 60 years, Jack Showalter of Toms Brook; daughter, Debbie Brown of Laurel, Maryland; son, Greg Showalter of Toms Brook; and grandson, Frank Showalter of Basye.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Anna Lee Myers Wilson, who passed away in 2009; and her brother, Edgar A. Myers, who passed away in 2010.

Burial will be at St. John's United Church of Christ Cemetery near Toms Brook, Virginia, April 5 at 11:00 a.m. A graveside service will be conducted by Pastor Joe Fleming of St. Johns.
